Ozark OffRoad Cyclists’ Epic Chill Ride is set for Nov. 14-15 at Upper Buffalo Trails near Red Star. The laid-back weekend will feature ride options with participants encouraged to log a few trail love hours over the weekend if they stumble upon some areas that need TLC.
On both Saturday and Sunday, the group will meet at the big parking lot south of the Highway 265 and Highway 16 intersection at 7:30 a.m. They will carpool or convoy from to the Buffalo Headwaters School in Red Star at the junction of Madison County Road 3506 and Highway 15 (15 miles east of Pettigrew). Participants can also meet at the school at 9:30 a.m. without hitching onto the convoy.
A women’s ride is planned for Saturday at 10 a.m. on shorter, flowing trails. This ride will focus on a slow pace, frequent stops, supportive camaraderie, and enjoying the beauty of autumn. This is an intermediate, not a beginner ride. This is a long, flow trail down, with a shorter uphill climb back up. OORC is working to arrange a shuttle back to the top for riders who might need a bailout at the bottom as well as additional alternate routes. If you are interested in lend a shuttling, let OORC know at email@example.com.
Other rides from chill to challenging will be organized and determined that day to meet the desires of all the rest of the riders who make it out to attend.
There is a Saturday night pot luck dinner with meat donated by Simmons Foods. Bring a side dish or desert to pitch in. Kitchen facilities are available. Live evening jams will be provided by Isayah Warford and Jacob Johnson from 6-10!!
Primitive camping will be an option on the grounds of Headwaters School. Family members who don’t ride are welcome to hang out at the school. Camping with showers is available at the Yellow Brick Road campground six miles west of Headwaters school.
